Japanese Vocabulary Maker helps you understand difficult Japanese text, research unfamiliar words, and build vocabulary lists, all from any Japanese content in seconds. Choose your input method:
  • URL: paste any Japanese webpage or a direct link to a PDF file
  • Image (OCR): upload a photo of a book page, manga panel, or any printed Japanese text
  • Paste Text: paste Japanese text directly to analyze it
  • File: upload an EPUB ebook, plain text file (.txt), subtitle file (.srt / .vtt), or audio file (.mp3, .m4a, .ogg, .wav, .flac)

For every word you get its hiragana reading, romaji, part of speech, and definition, making it easy to research words you don't know and go through even the most difficult text with confidence. Each entry links to Jisho and lets you jump back to the word's context in the original text. Classical Japanese is supported: historical kana (ゐ, ゑ) and Aozora Bunko texts are handled correctly, with original characters shown in context.

Use Stream Vocab to step through the content phrase by phrase with synchronized audio playback, which is great for deep reading or listening comprehension practice.

Record a video of the pages of a book while flipping through them. For best results:

  • Hold each page steady for at least a second or two.
  • Use bright, even lighting.
  • Show pages in order (1, 2, 3, etc).
  • Make sure page numbers are visible.
  • Fit each page cleanly into the frame.
  • Make sure pages are as flat as possible.
  • Speak each page number out loud (while holding it still) to improve quality, and say just "page" if there is no page number.
